Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Circadian. By Songfacts®.

This is the opening track from This Loud Morning, the second major-label studio album by American singer-songwriter and American Idol Season 7 winner David Cook, which was released on June 28, 2011. In an interview with AINow Cook explained he wanted the album to have a loose theme that is open to interpretation by the listener. He described this song as being about "falling asleep and escaping the day, and using sleep as a reprieve," the middle of the album being "the gestation cycle of a relationship from start to finish", and the final track "Rapid Eye Movement" as being about waking up from a dream and having to face actual reality.

Cook told Billboard magazine: "The song is the perfect opener for the record just in the sense that it really sets the scene for what the record's talking about. The song represents wanting to fall asleep to escape that reality and then the very end, finally being able to fall asleep and once that moment happens, it kind of opens up the story line for the rest of the record."

This Loud Morning was inspired by some strange dreams Cook had such as being turned down by Simon Cowell after re-auditioning for American Idol. These night time adventures occurred when the singer managed to get off to sleep, something he struggled to do during the recording of the album. He told MTV News: "I've never immersed myself in a record as much as I immersed myself in this one. That's not to say that I was phoning it in on the nine [albums, including eight indie releases] I did before this. But this one especially, I never had problems sleeping because of records, and this one kept me up a lot of nights."
