Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Cry for Me. By Songfacts®.

Here, Camila Cabello is reeling from a relationship ending. When she sees how her ex-lover has moved on from their breakup, she can't help wanting him to be as miserable as she's still feeling.

The song is based on a relationship Cabello was in when she was 16 years old. She explained on Instagram she wrote a song back then titled "I'm Pissed off You're Happy." That tune was "about a situation where someone and I broke up and sooner than I expected, they moved on, they were having fun and happy and dating and I was just like... what the hell, that didn't take very long." Six years later, Cabello took that idea of "the feeling nobody likes to admit about feeling wild with jealousy" and put it into "Cry For Me."

Cabello wrote the song with: OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, who has also written tunes for the likes of Beyoncé ("Halo"), Adele ("Rumour Has It"), Leona Lewis ("Bleeding Love") and Ellie Goulding ("Burn"). Producers Frank Dukes and Louis Bell, who also worked on Camila Cabello's smash hit "Havana." Their other joint credits include Jonas Brothers' "Sucker" and Post Malone's "Better Now." Dukes and Bell produced the track.
