This was written by Blunt together with Max Martin, the Swede behind such blockbusters as Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" and the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way."
Blunt told VH1 about this song: "This is probably the most personal song [on the record]. I've gotten used to writing quite open lyrics and then being forced onto a stage. I'm relatively comfortable with that now. It's about an old relationship and someone in real difficulty. It's probably five months old, [I wrote it] just prior to when I went into the studio."
James Blunt told The Observer Magazine March 16, 2008: "Ladies love a soppy lyric. There's a real winner in 'Carry You Home'. 'If she had wings she would fly away/And another day God will giver her some.' You know the girls will get that one."
