The second single by Nicola Roberts, from her debut solo album, Cinderella's Eyes, was written by the Girls Aloud singer with Dimitri Tikovoi and Maya von Doll. The trio also penned Roberts' debut solo release, "Beat Of My Drum." The song was released on September 18, 2011.
The track was produced by Canadian electro-pop group Dragonette. The trio's lead singer, Martina Sorbara, is the daughter of Greg Sorbara, who is a Member of Provincial Parliament and formerly the Minister of Finance in Ontario. Martina previously provided the vocals for Martin Solveig's smash hit, "Hello."
Roberts told Digital Spy about the track: "Dragonette were the first people I worked with when starting my album. When I wrote 'Lucky Day' I had short hair and was really into '40s fashion. All of the 'woah woah woah woah' and the 'ah ha' really is a reflection of that." She continued: "When it came to producing the track earlier this year, I wanted to change it to a more modern downbeat dance record because that's what I am more into now."
