This is the theme song of the 1977 movie Smokey And The Bandit, in which Jerry Reed co-starred with Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, and Jackie Gleason. The song basically tells the complete plot of the movie.
Herb Alpert recorded an instrumental remake for his 2023 album, Wish Upon a Star. "I did this tune from Smokey and the Bandit that was written by Jerry Reed, who was in the movie as well, but I never got that tune out of my brain," he told Billboard. "I saw [the movie] maybe 20 years ago. And I always remember that melody, and I tried to see if I could play that melody in my style and make some sense out of it. And it seemed like I had a favorable reaction."
