Laredo, Texas, a vibrant city nestled on the northern bank of the Rio Grande, stands as a lively crossroads between the United States and Mexico. It's the kind of place that hums with a vibrant energy where cultures collide. It was here, in his early 20s, that Leon Bridges found the inspiration for "Laredo."

The story of the song goes back to Bridges' competitive dancing days. One evening in Laredo, he found himself spellbound by a performer on stage. "She was incredible," Bridges recalled. "She had this amazing presence - so in touch with herself, just killing it up there. Everything about her mesmerized me." It was a moment that stayed with him. Bridges wanted to talk to her, to know more about the person behind the captivating performance. But, as these things often go, he didn't get the chance. That fleeting encounter in Laredo left an indelible mark that 10 years later resurfaced as the heart of his song. "When we wrote this song, the memory of her was still so clear," Bridges explained, reflecting on the songwriting process with Kacey Musgraves collaborators Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian. "I think you can hear that in the song. It's a snapshot of a moment I'll never forget."

Produced by Ian Fitchuk, "Laredo" is a soulful song with subtle Latin influences, including flamenco-style guitar flourishes. "This track is a nightlife vibe," said Bridges. "A down-tempo, rocksteady homage to those moments when life slows down and all that matters is being in the now."
