After spending her early teen years playing the wholesome lead in the Disney TV series Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus began to rebel. By the time she released her fourth album Bangerz in 2013, she had adopted a highly sexual persona and was open about her use of cannabis. This song features Miley flaunting her rebellious personality by referring to herself as a freak, a Nile crocodile, a piranha and a witch. She goes on to insinuate that she inherits her in-your-face attitude from her mom. Miley co-wrote the song Finnish pop star Alma. Her 2017 solo song "Chasing Highs" was a hit throughout Europe.
The track was produced by Miike Snow's Andrew Wyatt. He also contributed to the writing of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born duet "Shallow."
