This song is about finally and sadly giving up on a friend who is beyond the point of no return with alcoholism: "You can only lean, on me for so long, bring the ship about, to watch your friend drown, sit up on the ledge, begged you to come down."
This is rumored to be about blink-182's original drummer, Scott Raynor, whose struggle with alcohol abuse got him fired from the band while they were touring in support of their Dude Ranch album. Raynor, who was replaced by Travis Barker, was asked about the song in Blink 182 - The Band, The Breakdown & The Return by Joe Shooman, he replied, "I have never heard the song all the way through, and I don't know what the lyrics are. Besides, it couldn't possibly be about me. In all our years touring together we only took one nautical voyage, it was a ferry ride from France to England, and that went fine."
This was the lead single for The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back!), the band's first live album. It peaked at #2 on the Alternative Songs chart.
