50 Cent hit the sweet spot in the mid-'00s with highly suggestive songs that were just ambiguous enough to pass through to pop listeners. In 2003 he scored with "Magic Stick," which tells tales of his bedroom sorcery, and in 2005 he landed with "Candy Shop," which is quite obviously about oral sex ("lick the lollipop") but you could tell your kids it was about, you know, candy, and they might believe you. Both songs have female vocalists who play the role of 50's partner. On "Magic Stick" it's Lil' Kim, and on "Candy Shop" it's the singer Olivia, who was signed to 50's G-Unit label.
The intro is familiar to fans of classic hip-hop: it comes from "Paid In Full," a 1987 landmark by Eric B. and Rakim, who built it from a sample of "Love Break" by The Salsoul Orchestra.
"Candy Shop" was one of the biggest hits of 2005, spending nine weeks at #1 that spring. It helped The Massacre album sell over 6 million copies.
