This is the final track on Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi's debut album, Man On The Moon, which tells his story so far. At the end the album's narrator, Common, says: "A new challenge awaits" for Cudi. The Cleveland rapper explained to HipHopDX.com: "It's kinda segueing to the next album. And I know that there's gonna be a lot of challenges up ahead in my career, in my life, and there's more to this story that just hasn't unfolded yet. So I got a lot more living to do before I start working on the second album. But everything that I experience from here on out will be mentioned on the second album – not necessarily about dealing with fame or anything like that, just like my life and times."
In an interview with Artistdirect.com, Cudi was asked if he recorded this uplifting closing anthem last. He replied: "Actually, I did record that towards the end [Laughs]. I needed an ending. I felt like the album didn't end properly with "Hyyerr." It felt like it needed that last scene. The album needed that love story where you see the girl and the guy kissing and they walk off holding hands. It's that type of feel-good ending to a movie. When you hear "Up, Up & Away" come on, you feel like that's the credit roller. It feels like the end of the movie, and you get that vibe."
