She explained to UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph: "I lived in the East Village at the time, so I saw all these people go by with their briefcases and suits, covered in ash, still acting civilized. But the lust of character goes beyond making money, the wild being wants to express itself. There's also a reference to the immigrants, who work so hard to be free. So everyone's dead, the mythological Liberty, the romantic notion of it."
