Sam Barber is a country singer-songwriter from Missouri known for his deeply emotional performances that blend country, rock, folk, and alternative influences. His music draws inspiration from personal struggles and hardships, infusing his songs with emotional depth.
He was raised on his family's 400-acre farm in Frohna, a small town of about 200 people in Southeast Missouri.
Barber's early life revolved around baseball, football and basketball. His musical journey began at 16 when he picked up his great-grandfather's old Gibson guitar with only five strings and started writing songs. "I was into sports growing up. My dad is a mechanic, and my mom is a nurse, but they don't do music," he told Billboard. "My great-grandfather had a guitar, and it was in my parents' room. When I was 15 or 16, I just thought it'd be cool to learn it. I never actually met him, but from stories I heard and pictures I've seen, he used to play in bars and stuff. I started watching YouTube videos, learning to play, and went from there." Barber practiced playing the guitar obsessively to the point of annoying his parents.
