Before forming the Bad Brains, several of its members were part of a group called Mind Power, which focused on material similar to such '70 era jazz-fusion acts as Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra.
The majority of the Bad Brains' albums were not released via a major label - by the H.R.'s choice. Speaking to Classic Rock magazine, Daryl Jenifer recalled: "In the early days, we had offers from Elektra and Island. [With] Elektra, H.R. introduced the label president to me as 'Satan' [laughs] - at the Plaza Hotel in New York when they were going to offer us a million dollars. And then the Island deal, we had the contracts out to sign, and he said he wanted to use the bathroom, and ran down the street."
The Cars' singer/guitarist/songwriter, Ric Ocasek, has produced two Bad Brains albums: 1983's Rock for Light and 1995's God of Love.
