Jeff Healey

Healey was born in Toronto, and lost his sight at the age of one due to a rare form of cancer called retino blastoma. At the age of 3 he picked up a guitar for the first time and played it by laying it across his lap, a style he used his whole career.

His birth name is Norman Jeffrey Healey. He used the stage name Jeff Healey and formed his first band at the age of 17.

Along with bassist Joe Rockman and drummer Tom Stephen, he formed The Jeff Healey Band. Stevie Ray Vaughan discovered Jeff, which led to an appearance with Patrick Swayze in the movie Road House. Around this time Arista records signed The Jeff Healey Band and the first album, released 1988, featured the hit single "Angel Eyes" and the song "Hideaway," which was nominated for the Best Instrumental Grammy Award. The album See The Light went Gold in the US.
