Refused

The title of Refused's seminal 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come is a play on the title of Ornette Coleman's 1959 fusion jazz album The Shape of Jazz to Come. The title for the Refused song "Refused Are F--kin' Dead" is also a play on an already existing song, Born Against's "Born Against Are F--kin' Dead."

Metal magazine Kerrang! placed Refused's The Shape of Punk to Come at #13 on their list of the 50 Most Influential Albums of All Time in 2003.

The breakdown in Refused's song "New Noise" samples Col. Kurtz's monologue from the 1979 Francis Ford Coppola movie Apocalypse Now. Another Refused song that features a sample is "Deadly Rhythm," which borrowed parts from Bo Diddley's 1959 song "I'm A Man."
