The founding members all played in different bands throughout Knoxville, Tennessee before coming together as The Used, which featured Pappas on vocals. They decided Davis was the better singer/songwriter, and Pappas took over bass with Davis the frontman. This is when they changed their name to Superdrag.
In 1999 after MTV and radio success, Pappas left the band to pursue Flesh Vehicle, and was replaced with Sam Powers (formally of Who Hit John, a Nashville power pop band).
In 2000, Fischer left the band because he grew tired of touring. He wasn't replaced until 2001, when former Faults singer/guitarist Mic Harrison came along.
