Progressive Rock

Progressive rock (often shortened to prog rock or prog) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s as part of a "mostly British attempt to elevate rock music to new levels of artistic credibility." It is characterized by the use of extended instrumental techniques, complex song structures, and often unconventional instrumentation. Progressive rock bands often used concept albums and extended compositions to explore philosophical, social, and political themes. The genre is often associated with the use of synthesizers, Mellotrons, and other electronic instruments.
