Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Dirty Love. By Songfacts®.

"Dirty Love," written of course by Frank Zappa, appears on Over-Nite Sensation as the third track, right after the even-better-known "I'm the Slime." It also appears in live versions on FZ:OZ and You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 6. Surprisingly enough, it isn't on the posthumous 1997 collection Have I Offended Someone?, which is a collection of his more offensive material.

"Dirty Love" comes from a period when Zappa was fascinated with bawdy humor. That streak starts on this album with this song plus "Camarillo Brillo," "Zomby Woof," and "Dinah-Moe Humm," and carries through at a clip of a couple of songs per album until Sheik Yerbouti.
Although charts and Zappa famously did not get along, Over-Nite Sensation did mark a point at which his music became more accessible. It was his first album to go gold, and rose to #32 on the Billboard album charts.

Did we forget to mention that Tina Turner and the Ikettes did uncredited backing vocals on the entire album? Most famously their contribution comes through on the final track "Montana". How ironic is it that today probably more people have heard of Tina Turner than Frank Zappa?
