Interesting facts and trivia about I Love New York. By Songfacts®.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1977 to pursue a career in modern dance before settling in England a quarter of a century later after meeting her then husband Guy Ritchie. This synth-heavy dance tune finds the pop icon lyrically spurning her adopted hometown and other cities she's spent time in to praise the Big Apple: Los Angeles is for people who sleep Paris and London, baby, you can keep Said Madonna: "Can't I love New York the best? There's enough room in my heart for other cities, and there's also a bit of irony in the song, you know. I actually wrote that while I was on tour and in New York, and I was loving the energy of being here and just feeling like I stuck my finger in an electric socket."

The song was performed on the New York themed second season finale of Fox TV's Glee on May 24, 2011 by way of a mash-up with On The Town's "New York, New York." The show previously paid tribute to the singer in season one's "The Power Of Madonna" episode, which featured several of her best known hits.
