Speaking with Radio.com's, Julia, Jason Derulo said he wanted to highlight in the song "how I appreciated the fact that this girl was independent, and she created a whole lifestyle for herself but saying 'just because you created this amazing lifestyle, which I appreciate, doesn't mean I can't add value to your life."

Jason Derulo and Adam Levine wrote the song with Natalie Anne Salomon, Pablo Bowman, Jacob Kasher, Casey Smith and Amy Allen. It was produced by the Rice N' Peas duo of Kevin White and Michael Woods. They also helmed Bazzi's Cosmic album, including the hit singles "Mine" and "Beautiful."
