The first song dropped by Justin Timberlake following his Man of the Woods album is a dance banger. It finds him stepping out of the woods, following the country vibes of that record.
Released the day before 2018's Independence Day, "Soulmate" starts with Timberlake proclaiming that "summer starts now" before he proceeds to describe a one-night stand over a pulsating dance beat. According to our dictionary, a 'soulmate' is a person to whom one is deeply emotionally or spiritually attached. We're not quite sure that Timberlake actually gets the concept of the word.
Justin Timberlake wrote the song with frequent collaborator James Fauntleroy as well as Brian Casey, Gary Smith, Lechas Young and Brandon Casey. It was recorded in the Bahamas just a week before its release along with co-producer Nineteen85. The Canadian also supplied the beats for Drake's hits "Hotline Bling," "Too Good" and "One Dance."
