Sia released "Snowman" on November 9, 2017 as a promotional single from her holiday Everyday Is Christmas album. It didn't catch on until December 2020, when the song went viral on TikTok as part of the Snowman Challenge, where users attempt to sing an entire verse in one breath.

Following its rise in popularity, the track entered the singles charts in Australia, Canada and many European countries. It reached #1 on the Finnish Singles Chart, Sia's first visit to the summit in that territory.
