The Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish's seventh long player, Imaginaerum, is a concept album telling the story of an old composer on his deathbed, reminiscing of his youth. This is the lead single, which was released on November 11, 2011.
The song is about the 1982 animated movie The Snowman. Band leader Tuomas Holopainen told Metal Hammer magazine: "It's such cool stuff, and I think that 'Walking In The Air' is the best piece of music ever composed, so [I thought], 'let's do a remake of that'!"
The song spent four weeks at #1 on the Finnish Singles charts. It was Nightwish's twelfth chart-topper in their home country.
