This song is about a love so strong that even though the couple is separated by death, the love goes on. Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee explained: "That song was a little bit of storytelling about not wanting to accept the death of your loved one and just going nuts - to the point that I would go out and dig up the grave."
Amy Lee started writing this song around 1996 when she was still a teenager. She completed it with her Evanescence bandmates Ben Moody and David Hodges, and they released it on an album called Origin in 2000, which was sold on the web but really served as a demo to help them land a record deal. They played the song live but left it off their debut album, Fallen, released in 2003. In 2016, Lee released a new version of the song on the compilation album Lost Whispers.
