This is about a kid who tries to fit in or be "cool" like everyone else, and even though he might get acceptance he doesn't feel like the real him. Then he realizes that he doesn't need those people because if he can't be himself around them, he's better off on his own.
"Pieces" was the most successful single from Sum 41's third album, Chuck. It was written by their frontman, Deryck Whibley. The song is uncharacteristically mellow for the Ontario rockers, who made their name with high energy tunes like "Fat Lip" and "In Too Deep."
Directed by Brett Simon, the video shows a dimly-lit Deryck Whibley walking down a street as trucks go by holding human dioramas depicting "perfect" scenes like "the perfect meal" and "the perfect vacation." In the end, Whibley shows up in one of these scenes: "the perfect life."
