Dieuson Octave is a Florida born and raised hip-hop recording artist of Haitian heritage. From the age of six, Octave used the nickname "Black" and when he joined Instagram he chose the username "Kodak Black". This subsequently became his performing name.

Black has had frequent run-ins with the law throughout his career. The resulting several stints he has spent in jail have stunted his rise to fame.
