Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Tight Wad Hill. By Songfacts®.

Green Day hit it big in Berkeley, California. Tightwad Hill is the nickname for Charter Hill, the big hill where college students who would rather not buy a ticket watch football games at the University of California, Berkeley.

Far from a nostalgic look at Tightwad Hill, this song depicts the drug use and illicit activities that took place there: Town of lunatics Begging for another fix Turning tricks for speedballs Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong wrote from a dark place for Insomniac, the follow-up to their immensely popular album Dookie. There's even a song on the album called "Jaded," which pretty much sums up his mindset. A lot of this had to do with lack of sleep (per the album title) - Armstrong was burned out from work and was a new father, so he had a bad case of "Brain Stew."
