Interesting facts and trivia about The Old Me. By Songfacts®.

For most of his life, Memphis Fire vocalist Matty Mullins had been carefree and lighthearted, but following a scary experience in a plane caught up in a storm, he suddenly started getting hit by bursts of anxiety and crippling panic attacks. For two years Mullins was enveloped by a deep, dark depression. "The Old Me" finds him talking openly about his mental health issues. I don't like who I've become A hollow shell of someone And I feel like a stranger to myself I don't need to start over I just need to get back to when I didn't wake up to this hell I'm in Mullins shared in a statement that this song is about his struggle with his demons. "What feels like a war between good and evil, loathing the person I become mentally when it consumes me, and trying to remember what life was like before I lived with the symptoms," he explained. "Ultimately hoping to one day become that person - 'The Old Me' - again."
