Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking. By Songfacts®.

One of the last Supremes singles, this disco number finds the ladies putting their man on notice: she's going to let her heart to the walking and finally leave him. The title is a play on the slogan for the Yellow Pages, "let your fingers do the walking."

This was written and produced by the brothers Brian and Eddie Holland, who along with Lamont Dozier, wrote most of the early hits for The Supremes. After leaving in 1968 to form their own label, they returned to do more work with Motown in the mid-'70s. Other songs they wrote around this time include "Just A Little Bit Of You" by Michael Jackson and "Get The Cream Off The Top" by Eddie Kendricks.

This song, along with the album's title track, actually features four Supremes - Mary Wilson, Scherrie Payne, Cindy Birdsong, and Susaye Greene. The album was finished just after Birdsong was replaced by Susaye Greene. After Birdsong's departure from the group, Greene's voice was overdubbed on this song and on the album's title track.
