Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Medicine Man. By Songfacts®.

This song was written by lead guitarist John Lees. An avid science fiction fan, Lees was inspired by the Ray Bradbury novel Something Wicked This Way Comes, which is itself a quote from the William Shakespeare play Macbeth. Published by Rupert Hart-Davis in 1963, the book is about a carousel which has a curious property, it ages or regresses the people who ride it by one year per revolution. Although "Medicine Man" was one of the band's most popular tracks, they were not happy with the original arrangement, and it was re-recorded for the B Side of "Thank You."
