Running 3:47 and backed by "Young Boy In The City," "Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go)" was written for Hazell Dean by Mike Stock and Matt Aitken; released on the Proto label, it was the first Top 10 hit for the production team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman.

Pete Burns of Dead or Alive heard the song on the radio, and as a result of that, his management contacted the team of producers, Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who he gave them their first #1 with "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)."
