Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Can I Sit Next to You Girl. By Songfacts®.

This was AC/DC's debut single. Penned by Angus and Malcolm Young, it was released in Australia only July 22, 1974 reaching #19 on the singles chart there. The song is about picking up a girl, but it's much more innocent and subtle than what we would come to expect from AC/DC.

The B-side was another original "Rockin' In The Parlour." Both songs featured lead vocals from original singer Dave Evans, the only two AC/DC recordings to feature him as the Young brothers had decided that Evans, who dressed like a glam rocker, was not a suitable frontman for the group. Evans left shortly afterwards to join Newcastle glam rockers Rabbit and was replaced by Bon Scott.

An AC/DC fan paid $1225 for a copy of this song on eBay in January 2012. Two-and-a-half years later, a copy of The New Zealand-only Polydor label pressing of the single was sold on the same site, fetching a whopping $4,471.
