This was Taylor Dayne's second single, the follow-up to her smash hit "Tell It To My Heart." Both songs were produced by Ric Wake and written by Seth Swirsky, who told us: "Taylor was trying to do her next record and it needed to be done quickly, and everybody in the world was writing for her, because here was this new artist and that's a very fertile ground for writers to write for. And I really wanted to get the second single. I wrote a number of songs, and kept submitting them to Clive and other people there. And one by one they were rejected. It really goes to the point that you could be having a #1 hit at the time, you're still just another writer with another song. When you're a staff songwriter, that's exactly what's happening. I just kept at it, and I finally wrote the song 'Prove Your Love' with Arnie Roman, and it was taken as Taylor's next single." (Find out what life is like for a staff songwriter, and what happens when you get sick of it, in our interview with Seth Swirsky.)
It's not as extreme as "Paradise By the Dashboard Light," but in this song Taylor Dayne is demanding a commitment from her lover before she gives him what he wants. Judging by her next single - "I'll Always Love You" - things worked out.
