Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about There Goes My Baby. By Songfacts®.

This heartfelt ballad was the first promotional single of Usher's 2010 album, Raymond vs. Raymond. Later it was released as the record's fourth single.

Usher explained the song's origins to The New York Times March 26, 2010: "The feeling of it is if you have a true connection with somebody, no matter what happens in life, it will always come back," he said. "No matter how long it takes to make it through whatever issues pull you apart, something pulls you back together. The rest is between the lines."

Rico Love wrote the song's lyrics. The New York Times asked him if the line, "Like waterfalls, your hair falls down to your waist," is a reference to Usher's former girlfriend, Rozonda Thomas, Chilli of the R&B group TLC, who scored a massive international hit with 1994's "Waterfalls." Love admitted the nod was intentional: "I always thought Chilli and Usher were a great couple, so I did that to spark something," he said.
