Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Lost in Your Eyes. By Songfacts®.

Debbie Gibson was still a teenager when she released "Lost In Your Eyes," a piano ballad she wrote and produced herself. The song finds her discovering love and looking forward to a wondrous unknown with this person. By this time, she had dated, but she claimed the song wasn't written about anyone in particular.

This was the lead single to Gibson's second album, Electric Youth. She was still in high school when her debut album, Out of the Blue, was released, and had yet to graduate when "Foolish Beat" made her the first person to write, produce and perform on a #1 Hot 100 hit. "Lost In Your Eyes" kept her at the top of the pop game, but she was starting to burn out. Signed to Atlantic Records, she kept a rigorous promotion schedule and spent lots of time on the road touring. She stayed away from recreational drugs and alcohol, but ended up on Xanax to manage her panic attacks. Her next album, Anything Is Possible, was released in 1991. On that one, she got help from co-writer Lamont Dozier. The following year, she took to Broadway, starring in Les Miserables as Eponine. Gibson's hits dried up, but she kept making music and became a very popular stage performer.

Gibson performed this song on her 1988 tour before it was released. Fan reaction gave her hints at the song's hit potential.
