This single is about someone who's so devastated by a breakup that only a miracle will enable them to love someone else again. The version by Deniece Williams was a huge success, topping the R&B charts and reaching #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her biggest solo hit until "Let's Hear It For The Boy" two years later.
The Teddy Randazzo, Bob Weinstein, and Lou Stallman penned song has an interesting history. It was originally performed by The Royalettes in 1965, where it peaked at #41, and was performed by Laura Nyro in 1971. The cover by Williams is the most successful version to date.
