This song describes the suffering of Vietnamese people during and after the Vietnam War, as well as their perilous escape and their treatment for those who made it to America. The Vietnam War dragged on for so long that by the time America pulled their last troops from the country in 1975, the United States was ready to put it in the rearview mirror. But America left Vietnam in ruins, an inconvenient truth most didn't want to think about - for the most part, even the veterans of that war, most of whom were drafted to go, were shunned. But Dead Kennedys were there to remind us that 10 year on, Vietnam was still in the grips of poverty, struggling to rebuild. In the song, a Vietnamese child scavenging at a chicken farm gets blown up when he finds a bomb left over from the war.
