Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about stevie. By Songfacts®.

This one is tough to decipher. The NME review of the album said the song was about a psychopath and a killing spree, which tied in with the "Stevie, where you going with that gun? Who you wanna shoot down? Who you trying to kill?" lyrics. As Dina at The Kasabian Wiki points out, this is not the case. "It's about believing in yourself and standing up for what you believe in," she explained. "It seems like the song is just as misunderstood as the character Stevie, because people make assumptions after hearing only the first line and nothing else."

This song follows the tale of a psychopath being talked out of a spree by his friends. The track was inspired by the London–based artist Carrie Reichardt and her Mad in England mosaics. Kasabian songwriter and guitarist Serge Pizzorno told NME: "There is an artist, Carrie Reichardt, who does a series of works called Mad In England – I've got one – and she's incredible. I just thought Mad in England was an amazing thing to come up with. I can imagine this song inspiring people."

Formerly titled "Kid," the name Stevie was chosen for its gender ambiguity.
