The Fitz and the Tantrums album has a loose theme running through it of letting go and losing control. This song is a story about the most basic form of desire: "It's when you have no willpower against the pure sexual chemistry you have with someone you know is going to hurt you," explained frontman Michael Fitzpatrick.
Fitz and the Tantrums turned to outside collaborators for the first time for the first time when writing for the album. This song found them collaborating with Jesse Shatkin who has also worked with Sia, including on her "Chandelier" single. "We relinquished control of ourselves," co-vocalist Noelle Scaggs said, "and that enabled us to tell our story in a completely truthful manner."
