In this song, Chris Brown is telling a girl that it's time to break up, that no matter how hard they try, there's no way they can stay together. His heart is breaking staying with her, and he's sick of pretending to get along when they don't.

"Say Goodbye" was one of Brown's early hits, part of his 2005 self-titled debut album. His first single, "Run It!," went to #1 that November, and early in 2006, he had another big hit with "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)." His Lil Wayne collaboration "Gimme That" was hit that summer, and "Say Goodbye" reached its chart peak of #10 that November.
