Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Vera. By Songfacts®.

"Vera" is Vera Lynn, a very popular British singer during World War II who hosted a BBC radio program called Sincerely Yours. Her morale-building ballads were extremely popular with servicemen; she appeared in an armed forces stage revue and toured Burma in 1944. She also made three wartime films.

Running 1:33, "Vera" is part of Pink Floyd's concept album The Wall where the main character, Pink, visits a battlefield in World War II, where his father was killed. It leads into the track "Bring The Boys Back Home," a call to end the war. Like most of the album, the song was written by Roger Waters, whose father was killed in WWII. He often refers to war in his lyrics.

In "Vera," Roger Waters is referencing Lynn's famous song "We'll Meet Again" when he sings: Remember how she said that We would meet again some sunny day? Lynn's song goes: We'll meet again Don't know where, don't know when But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
