This song is about the actor John Belushi, who starred in the movie Animal House and was a popular cast member on Saturday Night Live. Belushi died of a drug overdose on March 5, 1982. The song takes a look at how the trappings of fame destroyed Belushi, and how despite his massive success, he chose a reckless, self-destructive life.
Speaking about the track in a 2013 interview, drummer Charlie Benante told us: "It wasn't a pro drug song, because we've never been pro drug. But we did love John Belushi and his contribution to comedy. He influenced so many that came after him. It was just a shame that he died so young, and how drug use pretty much controls your life. I mean, he just loved to have a good time and he just took it a little bit too far."
"Efilnikufesin" is "nisefukinlife" spelled backwards. N.F.L. is an acronym for Nice F--kin' Life, as well as the National Football League. Belushi was captain of his high school football team.
