Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about The Color Violet. By Songfacts®.

In this song, Tory Lanez expresses his heartbreak over a woman he desired but who ultimately proved to be bad for him. Through "playing games of love," she ended up deceiving him and breaking his heart. Lanez conveys through the "I won't dance again" chorus that he feels like he won't be able to move on from his pain.

In Western culture, the color violet is traditionally associated with royalty and nobility, as it was a very expensive dye to produce in ancient times and was therefore often worn by kings, queens, and other members of the upper classes. The song title doesn't appear in the lyrics and it's unclear why Lanez named it "The Color Violet." Maybe it's connected with his deceiving love interest's power over him.

Roark Bailey, Nik Dean and Foreign Teck created the '80s-inspired synth-pop beat. Lanez recorded the track for Alone At Prom, an album heavily inspired by the pop greats of the '80s.
