Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Cheer Up London. By Songfacts®.

The Slaves duo (they changed their name to Soft Play in 2022) moved to London to record their debut album after living in Kent for pretty much all of their lives. This song is about the hopelessness of the capital dweller. Isaac Holman of the duo told NME it "was inspired by traveling on the underground and just looking at those horrible commuters hating life."

Actor Shaun Williamson plays a manic ice-cream man in the video. Williamson is best known for playing the character of Barry Evans in the BBC soap EastEnders from 1994 until 2004, as well as a starring role in Ricky Gervais' comedy, Extras.

The music video won Best Music Video at the NME Awards 2016.
