Revival

The first song on Selina Gomez's Revival album, its first lines are, "I feel like I've awakened - the chains around me are finally breaking." The track came out of a moment the former Disney star had in Mexico, where she was working on the record. Gomez recalled to Flare: "I had taken a few of the producers there because I wanted to remove everybody from their environment in L.A. While we were away, I was getting criticized [by the media] because I had gained weight. I was really bummed when I found out all that stuff was going on, and that's when I was like, 'I'm so tired of feeling like I'm being pulled down by something.'"

Semi Precious Weapons frontman Justin Tranter co-penned several of the Revival songs including this one and "Good For You." He told the New York Times that Gomez was realistic about playing into the gossip. "Those questions do come up while writing," he said. "Of course we don't want everything to feel like it's feeding into the tabloids, but also we need the song to win. She's smart enough to know that."
