Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Thursday. By Songfacts®.

This hymn to the weekend finds rapper Example reciting days of the week whilst Neil Tennant implores someone to "stay for the weekend". The song originally had a Nicki Minaj sample before producer Stuart Price revealed he was working with Example, and suggested him. He told Electronic Beats magazine: "I think we just thought it's a slightly unexpected combination, which normally leads to something pretty good. Sometimes you go with the obvious and you end up, not really getting above it. Example was just quite an unusual choice. But he, I think he just understood that; it's just that got more Sugarhill direction."

Tennant told The Sun: "I was worried that Example would groan at the prospect of working with us too but he agreed — but only if he sang too. And two weeks later he came back with the whole part written. We got to meet when he played at the O2 with us in June in London." "He was really nervous," Tennant added. "He came with his whole family — his mum, dad and new wife (Erin McNaught). He said it was as nerve-racking as when he used to do his MC battles."

The song's music video was filmed in Shanghai. We see Pet Shop Boys and Example projected onto some of the Chinese city's buildings while performing the track as well as shots of the skyline and some of the locals. Example shot his part of the clip in Sydney.
