Love isn't enough to sustain a relationship in this lonely track from Moby. He explained on his website: "'Dream About Me' is a song about being in a flawed relationship that, although flawed, is still warm and intimate and loving. It's a song about being part of a couple but still feeling like an isolated individual and recognizing that it's impossible to find complete fulfillment through another person even if the two people in the couple genuinely love one another."
Moby shares lead vocals with Laura Dawn, who at the time was the cultural director of the progressive political advocacy group MoveOn.org. In 2007, Moby and Dawn formed the bluesy rock band The Little Death.
This was the fourth overall single (the third in the UK) released from Hotel, Moby's seventh studio album. It was also the only single that didn't appear on any charts.
