The song was penned by David Gamson a one-time member of the British pop band Scritti Politti, along with Alexander James, who also wrote 2008 X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke's UK #1 single, "Bad Boys," and Oliver Leiber, whose credits include Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract."
