Born and raised in Flatwoods, Kentucky, Billy Ray Cyrus attended Georgetown College on a baseball scholarship before changing to music.
Cyrus exploded onto the music scene when his debut album, Some Gave All, debuted on the Billboard 200 at #1 and stayed there for a record-breaking seventeen weeks in 1992. It went on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide.
The lead single, "Achy Breaky Heart", was a cover of a little known track by country music act the Marcy Brothers entitled "Don't Tell My Heart." The original version went virtually unnoticed, while the Cyrus cover version, aided by an infectious dance routine, crossed over into the mainstream charts and sold more than nine million copies around the world.
