Interesting facts and trivia about Wipers. By Songfacts®.

The Wipers was a recording project led by Greg Sage, whose goal was to release 15 LPs in 10 years with no support from touring and on an independent label. He began the band in 1979, releasing a short EP called Better Off Dead that was recorded on a 4-track. Their next release was the single "Romeo" in 1981 which was quickly followed by their first 2 LPs, Is This Real?, and Youth Of America. Trouble with their financing led to a need for some live shows and also prevented Greg from reaching his goal. After releasing The Circle in 1989, Greg disbanded The Wipers and went to live with his mother in Arizona, where he recorded a solo album called Sacrifice (For Love) in 1991.

As the band Nirvana was gaining popularity, lead singer Kurt Cobain made a public offer to Greg to play on a tour with them. He not only turned down the offer but also brought The Wipers back to record 3 more albums. These three albums were very different from their previous ones in that they were somewhat darker. They clearly were meant to shun the mainstream music of the time. The Power In One was their final record and soon after its release in 1998 the band ended for good. A box set would later be made in 2001 which included their first three LPs and 23 songs that had been previously unreleased.
